Numi Yoga Community Voice Internship
Internship Objectives: To creatively and effectively build marketing efforts through community outreach, partnerships, events during the year through a number of independently motivated tasks and roles including:
Actively communicating with other local businesses and organizations to create partnerships and events for the broader community
Coaching and supervising a team of college student ambassadors at campus and community events to promote Numi Yoga offerings
Representing our studio staff and mission to customers through a weekly shift responsible for studio and boutique
Managing human resource demands for scheduling and training studio volunteers
Contribute to our marketing efforts through social media posts and ads, advertising in digital and community publications, flyer design, email marketing campaigns, and developing a team of community advocates (listservs/social groups/word of mouth).
Description of Intern Responsibilities:
Coordinating Partnerships/Events
Each year we initiate or are invited to collaborate on a number of events like Glow Flow (Yogi Terps/Milkboy Arthouse), Bike to Work Day (City of College Park), Trolley Trail Day, Terps Take Care Fair, and more! Interns will help formulate and execute marketing efforts at such events as well as appropriate follow up campaigns.
Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside the manager and owner to create additional layers of automated marketing efforts on Mailchimp, social media, and other outlets to increase community connection with Numi Yoga.
Supervising Ambassadors
Interns will be trained to head our ambassador program with UMD students. You will organize events and brainstorm ideas with this group to reach students on campus through events, giveaways, and partnerships. You will formulate ideas to keep our ambassadors active on social media promoting Numi Yoga and research UMD events on campus that Numi may have an interest in participating in.
Weekly Desk Shift/Management of Volunteers
In order to get to know our community and become an expert in daily operations, as well as build to the skill level to onboard additional volunteers, interns will have a scheduled weekly shift and help coordinate the scheduling of other volunteers. You will be required to hold a weekly 4-hour shift throughout the school calendar (school breaks exempted).
Marketing
Interns will be expected to help strategize and implement social media marketing campaigns and work on Canva to design outgoing messaging. If intern has substantial design interest and skill, this area could grow to include designing printed goods and flier/poster campaigns for distribution around the area.
Academic Qualifications:
All majors are welcome to apply with a description of how your studies enhance your skill set for this position. Applicant must be in good academic standing with the University as well as their Department of study. Priority to students who are of sophomore or higher standing. Priority to students able to commit to a full school year or calendar year.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
An ideal candidate will demonstrate the following experience or willingness to learn:
Familiarity with yoga as a practice (ideally at our studio!)
Wellness industry operations
Managing or overseeing groups or teams
Multitasking and organization skills
Have comfort in Canva, Squarespace, Mailchimp, Facebook Advertising, etc.
This candidate needs to be:
Independently motivated
Professional in demeanor and proficient in verbal communication and etiquette
Able to meet deadlines and organize multiple projects
Proactive in communicating and readily on email and text messages
Positive in attitude, a forward thinker, self sufficient, a quick study and the desire to do well at job
Willing to work nights and weekends as events and shifts need coverage
About Numi Yoga:
Numi Yoga is College Park’s premier space for mindful movement and wellness. Located at the heart of downtown College Park, we are a growing community of neighbors and campus affiliated individuals who value yoga for fitness, mental health, emotional support (stress relief!), and spiritual exploration. Our teachers have years of experience and hundreds of hours of training to guide you along your yoga practice journey with educational experiences in our daily classes.
Start Date: September 2019
End Date: May 2020
Hours per week: 5-10 hrs per week
Location: At least 4 hours/week at Numi Yoga - 4513 College Avenue, College Park, MD. Additional hours may be done from home or at planned events.

Credit: College credit toward related major, minor or general electives. One college credit can be earned for 45 hours of work, so at least one credit per semester depending on the time and energy availability of intern. This is an unpaid internship. Benefits include logoed gear and free unlimited yoga during the course of the internship ($700 value over one school year).
